RW ARTS

OVERVIEW:

I was approached by Red Wing Arts for help with their website. The Red Wing Arts board had come up with an ambitious 5 year plan to grow the nonprofit and to start they realized their website could use some help.

MY ROLE:

I provided expert review and user research for the project.

  • Interviews

  • Surveys

  • Card sorts

  • Information architecture

INTERVIEW:

To start the project I sat down with the executive director of Red Wing Arts for an interview. We discussed their plan to grow as an organization, goals for the website, and desire for the website to convey their commitment to quality.

SURVEYS:

After the interview the decision was made to send a brief survey out to the different stakeholders (board members, artist, volunteers, etc.) to see what needs were and were not being met by the existing site.

Two main takeaways from the surveys were that:

  • Users were not understanding to breath of the organization and all the functions it preformed in the community.

  • Users needed an easier way to make donations to the organization.

CARD SORT:

After my initial review of the website it was clear that the website lacked intentional structure. Next a digital card sort was preformed with a few of the different stakeholders.

INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE:

Upon completely the above research and analyzing the data an information architecture was created for the website.
